Turning Point Therapeutics’ (NASDAQ:TPTX) said over the weekend that the confirmed objective response rate (0RR) was 93% for the 15 patients enrolled in its phase II trial testing repotrectinib in advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)
In the pooled phase I/II part of the TRIDENT-1 trial, the confirmed ORR was 91%. Based on the results the company plans to meet with the FDA before June to plan the next steps for repotrectinib to gain FDA approval.
Turning Point shares were trading at approximately $125 per share in morning trading of February 1. When SanaCurrents issued its report on the TRIDENT-1 catalyst on August 7, 2020, the company shares traded at $56.99 per share, reflecting a more than 100% gain in about five months.
Matinas BioPharma’s trial (NYSEAM:MTNB) did not fare as well as Turning Point’s TRIDENT-1. Matinas previously tested its lead fish oil-based drug, MAT9001, against a competitor, Vascepa, in 44 patients with elevated triglycerides (TGs). In that trial, MAT9001 exhibited superiority against Vascepa in lowering TGs in patients with cardiovascular disease.
Matinas increased the trial size to 94 patients in the ENHANCE-IT study, attempting to demonstrate the same superiority. On February 1, Matinas announced that while MAT9001, now branded as Lypdiso, demonstrated a 39% relative difference in response over Vascepa in TG reduction, the primary endpoint of percent change from baseline to end of treatment in triglycerides in the pharmacodynamic population did not meet statistical significance compared to Vascepa.
Shares of Matinas tumbled about 35% on Monday following the release of the ENHANCE-IT results, trading in the approximate range of $0.90 per share to $1.00 per share. At the time of the SanaCurrents report on the ENHANCE-IT catalyst on September 18, 2020, Matinas traded at $0.80 per share.
